A tribrach is a mounting plate used to attach a surveying instrument, such as a theodolite, total station, GNSS antenna, or target, to a tripod. The tribrach allows the surveying instrument to be repeatedly positioned in the same location above a survey marker with sub-millimeter accuracy, by unlocking and re-tightening it to adjust the instrument base to a horizontal level.
